TASTE OF SILENTS: SPEEDY (1928)

Harold 'Speedy' Swift (Lloyd) is an ambitious romantic who seems to find himself in a new job every week. Speedy dreams of settling down with Jean, but first he must help her grandfather protect his horse-drawn tram from a ruthless businessman.

Featuring a show-stopping and hilarious chase scene, Lloyd's last silent film is packed with personality and great gags. Look out for some gorgeous on-location shots from around New York and a major cameo from baseball legend Babe Ruth.

‘For Heaven’s Sake’ (1926); produced by and starring the hilariously hapless Harold Lloyd. ‘A rare chance to see this comedy classic by one of the great American film comedians of the silent era on the big screen. Introduced and accompanied by a live improvised piano score by Dunblane’s own Mike Nolan, who has accompanied silent films across the UK for over thirty years. The film's highlights include much traffic chaos, hymn singing by petty criminals and indigestible cakes.’ Refreshments, hopefully not indigestible, will be served before the screening.

Keaton is at his hilarious best in this buddy comedy… co-starring Brown Eyes the cow!

A poor young man, known only as “Friendless” (Keaton), sells the last of his belongings and travels West seeking work at a cattle ranch. Struggling to fit in with his fellow workers, he bonds with a beautiful cow named “Brown Eyes” (playing herself). When Brown Eyes is chosen for slaughter, Friendless will do anything he can to save her.

Featuring with live piano accompaniment from pianist Mike Nolan, Hitchcock's groundbreaking thriller from his early silent period marks the director's first plunge into the suspense genre.
